My second Hollywood carnival experience was amazing. I can definitely hold it that, the carnival never disappoints with these two fascinating events I’ve attended. The Caribbean carnival was full of so much energy this year, I wanted more!. I saw myself asking some questions like; why Micheal Blackson was wearing a robe and slippers? Has Machel Montano ever had an off performance? How do I start being friends with Alex Boye, his stage show was no joke at all!
- A short clip from the carnival
I got to know about the Caribbean carnival in California last year, I had no initial idea because I was used to the ones in Boston and NYC, however….. “they know how to get down”! Fun fact; the Beilizian flag looks almost like the Haitian flag when folded. It was hilarious how many times I mistakenly spoke Creole to the Belizean people.
The parade began when the Grand Marshal and Parade Queen cut the ribbon, at this very minute the joy and happiness knew no bounds, the fun came on, my favorite scene was when the onlookers had to jump in to join the masquerades dance. At this point, the only thing running through my tender mind was the lyrics to the best, ever written soca song by Square One, “love, unity, one big family, togetherness”.
Caribbean music genres like Konpa, Racine, Salsa, Punta, Dancehall, Reggaeton, and Soca, were heard blaring the atmosphere during the parade. The next moment of fun was the “carnival culture village ” that had different Caribbean foods and drinks from different vendors, then just when I thought “My Feet Hurt” the live performances began and reminded me that you only live once!
